Intro to Coding – Simba 1

Intro to Coding is the perfect first step for young coders!  Our program will take students ages 6+ age group through the basics of computers science and coding, and will start them off YOUNG and RIGHT for a bright future. Sign-up now to experience the world of technology in a fun environment.

Scratch Programming has been developed to meet the interests of younger students. In this course, school students will be introduced to fundamental programming concepts. Students will learn how to create animations, computer games, and interactive projects using Scratch, a graphical programming language developed at MIT. At the end of each course, students create their own projects and share it with their CodeSimba instructor and classmates. No previous programming skills are required. We will teach students how to use a computer and browser and managing files. Students do not need to purchase any software or textbook.

Basic Schedule:

Week 1 – IntroductionStudents are introduced to coding and how to use the Scratch interface.
Week 2 – All About Me CollageStudents create a fun and interactive collage to teach their classmates about themselves.
Week 3 – Animate a NameStudents choose a name or word to animate with sound and music.
Week 4 – Code your First StoryStudents use animation to code a story of their choice.
Week 5 – Pitch your PassionStudents create an interactive presentation/story about an idea, activity, or item they feel strongly about.
Week 6 – Make a QuizStudents learn how to code a quiz they can use to quiz their friends.
Weeks 7 & 8 – Choose your Own AdventureStudents will create a choose your own adventure story based on the user’s input.
Weeks 9 & 10 – Sprite CatcherStudents create an interactive sprite catching game. 
Weeks 11 & 12 – Maze GameStudents create a game to guide a sprite through a maze while avoiding obstacles.
Weeks 13 to 16 – Final ProjectStudents create their own final project using coding concepts they learned throughout the course. Students present and share their projects with their classmates and CodeSimba instructor.
